I grew up in a family where gardening was a way of life. Every summer, we canned, pickled, and preserved our own food. My love for canning started at a young age—around 13 or 14. One summer, when my mother was away, I was left in charge of the garden. To my surprise, the green beans decided it was time to produce, and before I knew it, I had bags full of them! In a panic, I called my grandmother, “Memere Jeannine,” for help. Together, we processed over two dozen jars of green beans that day, and that was just the beginning.
Forty years later, I’m still canning, pickling, and preserving—and I continue to use local, homegrown produce when possible. I follow many family recipes, but I’m always open to trying new ones!
My grandmother was also an expert seamstress, and I was lucky enough to learn this skill from her. I’ve been quilting since my teen years and love creating baby and lap-sized quilts, though I’m happy to take custom orders for any size or pattern.
