I grew up in a family that had a huge garden and we canned, pickled and preserved our own food every summer. I started canning on my own the summer I was thirteen or fourteen. My mother was out of town for a week and I was responsible for weeding, watering and picking the fruits/veggies while she was away. To my horror the green beans decided it was time to start producing and I had bags full. I quickly called my grandmother "Memere Jeannine" and asked for help. Within hours I had processed over 2 dozen pint and quart jars of green beans in the pressure cooker. The rest is history, thirty-five years later and I haven’t stopped canning, pickling and preserving since. I use my own and/or locally grown produce/fruit when possible. I continue to use many family recipes but I'm always willing to try something new.
My grandmother was also a very skilled seamstresses and I’m fortunate that I was able to learn this skill from her as well. I’ve been quilting since I was a teen. I typically have a number of baby/lap sized quilts pre-made but will make any size quilt/pattern per request.
